Ochre Services update
August 2008
Welcome to the first newsletter from Ochre Services, I trust you will find it interesting and it will be the conduit for keeping you informed of happenings and events, in addition of course to the face to face contact we enjoy having with our partners, customers and suppliers.
www.ochreservices.com web-site…
Many of you may have noticed the revamp of the Ochre Services web-site, with up to date information on our company.
From the evolution of our story from Ochre Networks to Ochre Services, to the development of our projects, I hope you will find much of interest on the new site. We will also update you regularly as we make significant announcements or changes to the site, and please sign up to be a regular recipient of this newsletter.
I would like to thank our Director of Sales & Marketing Yew Li Cheng for leading this initiative and to our website design company 8bits Media, in particular Nick and Natasha for their support and dedication.
project update…
We are expecting to be making some significant announcements on project timelines over the next few weeks which are very satisfying given the long gestation times for infrastructure projects of this nature. Our Perth to Jakarta and Singapore "Intrepid" submarine cable project continues to move at pace, and we expect to be announcing our project partners next month.
The SEA-ME-WE 3 cable experienced another major outage a couple of weeks ago, this time near Jakarta. The broadband highway out of Australia needs diversity on the route and we look forward to bringing that to our customers, with all of the economic benefit that will bring, particularly to Western Australia.
"Ochre WAN" is how we have titled our fibre-optic cable project in Western Australia from Perth to the Mid-West and onward to the Pilbara. We are pleased to announce that our technology partner Nokia Siemens is commencing the survey work for the route, which is critically important and will help us secure an early 2010 Ready for Service date.
Ochre team…
You will see details on the new web-site about members of our management team, and there have been several new additions as we ramp up our project activity. A big welcome to Simon Nearn, Bryan Turnbull, and expect a few more newbies in the coming weeks.
events where we can meet…
We have been very busy with attendance at industry events and we have included some of that activity on the site for your information.
This month is looking very busy with attendance at events in Geraldton on 26 & 27 August as a silver sponsor of the Mid West Resources Forum ; and in Singapore on 18-20 August for the Submarine Networks Conference. We look forward to seeing you there.
the NBN saga….
Well, well, well, another national discussion in Australia on broadband/cable deployment. Let's hope it is not another fiasco like the HFC roll-outs of the 1990s.
We certainly welcome the discussion, it is of national importance and clearly most customers want competition, not just an extension of the incumbent or their approach, however comically entertaining their public lobbying is, it is a distraction from the real debate that needs to take place.
Globally regulators are grappling with the challenges of providing ubiquitous broadband. Within Ochre's scope of activities we see very different approaches across Singapore, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, with at least two of those countries opting for degrees of separation for the incumbent carriers between the network and their customer facing business units.
Our message is as simple as our approach – let's get on with it. Take the shackles off the Australian industry and see innovation take off. We have customers proposing to use bandwidth in hugely innovative ways, in some cases world leading. So let's create the environment where that can happen nationally and where all players have an equal opportunity to utilize infrastructure. Watch the economy really take off as a result.
